Journal Entries 1 - 4: Are you Following Tommy Yet?

I've been a fan of the zombie genre for a long time. Some people like vampires, others werewolves, me... well, there's something about the walking dead that gives me the case of the "what ifs"!

I've been following the AMC series, "The Walking Dead" and it inspired me to do a little zombie writing. I was looking for a way to do a little daily writing exercise at the time and this seemed like the perfect fit. The Sound of Death Diary was the result.

Therefor I give you, Thomas "Tommy" J. Cruver, a 28-year-old stuck in the Capital Hill neighborhood of Seattle during "the Spread" aka a zombie outbreak in the Puget Sound. The Sound of Death Diary is a journal of Tommy's day to day life within the Spread. You'll get to know Tommy well through his entries and you're going to see the zombie spread from the ground. It won't always be at the edge of your seat writing, but it will be scary and give you a case of the "what ifs".

I think one of the most interesting things about this little series is that I'm literally writing it one entry at a time with no plot, no outline, and no idea of where the story will be taking us. To be completely honest I don't even know if Tommy will make it. Hell, like I put it in the series description, I might just leave that up to you... why not? Who am I to play God with Tommy's life?

As for this blog, well, I figured some of the readers would like to see more on Tommy. Maybe pictures and google maps of his neighborhood? Maybe art submitted by the readers? Maybe words of encouragement for Tommy... don't know.

So far Tommy has lasted about two weeks since the Seattle area was infected by the Spread. Through his diary we've learned that the Spread most likely started in the L.A. area. Here's a break down of entries 1 through 3, and a sneak peak at entry 4.

Entry 1: Tommy briefly introduces himself and shares with the readers his first close call.

Entry 2: Tommy shares with us that he's spotted a helicopter after a large explosion, and that he's made some weapons with things around his apartment.

Entry 3: Tommy finds a couple of zombies amusing and names them Ying and Yang. He also spots the culprit to an unusual "tank like" sound, this entry also mentions the first observation of a rotting smell that might be from next door.

Entry 4: Tommy will likely be leaving his apartment for the first time to investigate the rotting smell. He may also have another close call... maybe his first zombie kill!
